WHO ARE WE?
Sidewinders Lacrosse is a non-profit 501C(3) providing year round lacrosse for boys in grades 2-12 and girls grades 8-12 throughout the greater Annapolis area. While we are one of the largest lacrosse clubs in the region, you will find a very strong local feel and connection to our community rich in lacrosse legacy. The Sidewinders Lacrosse community starts and stops with the players and families who support us. We are driven by culture focused on building great habits, fueling a passion for the game We do not believe in the monetization of youth sports which is why nearly 90% of costs goes directly back to our players.
We are lucky enough to live in area full of former players who have played at the collegiate and professional levels. While they may have stepped away from playing, many of them have carried their passion, experience and knowledge to the sidelines as a coach. We have been fortunate to align with many current and former college players who are coaching our teams today. We have more than 50 coaches, many that have been with us for years. Our coaches bring years of experience and success to the table. More than 85% of our coaches played in college and the vast majority have more than 5-years’ experience coaching.
DIFFERENT BY DESIGN.
What makes our coaching strategy different? Understanding that players sometimes need a different voice, we encourage coaching cross-over where our coaching staffs switch teams for a practice. It gives players a different perspective and extends our coaching resources to all our players. We also encourage coaching peer reviews where one coaching staff will watch another team practice and provide helpful feedback and insight that can be used to enhance practice structure, terminology, and approach. Lastly, we have established a coaching internship program that targets current college lacrosse players who have in interest in coaching. Following graduation, interns are brought in to support our current coaching staff for summer tournaments bringing a fresh new voice and perspective.
WINNING FORMULA. Player Development is a term that is thrown around a lot, but we believe it is the single most important functions of the club. Player Development is not just catchy lingo, it is core to our organization. We follow a 70/30 Development Model meaning we spend 70% of the season on player development and the remaining 30% on other activities. We believe the model is important to ensure our athletes receive the instruction and repetition necessary to take his game to the next level. From our youngest athletes in first grade to high school juniors, our program incorporates training designed to help our athletes grow. We place a great deal of importance on player development including structured clinics and various in-house developmental opportunities including specialized goalie, face-off, offensive
and defensive opportunities.
WE JUST DON’T TALK ABOUT IT. WE INVEST IN PLAYER DEVELOPMENT. We also believe meaningful player development means building the right partnerships that provide additional value for our players. Located in one of strongest concentrations of lacrosse, we have access to some of best resources in the game. Our partnerships with Breakfast Club Academy, AP Lax, Goalie Performance School and others bring even more opportunity for individual work and growth. The best part? It is all included.
No fees, no gimmicks, no surprises.

Tryouts for all players are held in August each year. Sidewinders selects the players for its teams based on important key player attributes, such as skill/ability, effort, attitude (coachability), field awareness (AKA "Lax IQ") and commitment. Our tryouts involve targeted agility and skill drills as well as situational (offensive/defensive) team activities that allow our coaching staff to effectively assess a player's ability, speed, quickness and decision-making at game-speed. Traditionally, Sidewinders will host two structured tryouts and supplement dates as needed. Private tryouts will remain open throughout the year.
